“Kate is my Christopher Robin.”

Sophie grew up in Chelmsford, Essex. She failed the 11+, had a weekend job at a boarding kennels where she suffered workplace bullying from a goat, and nurtured a dream to have a career she could do in her pyjamas. She worked at two London publishers before finally achieving her ambition by going freelance in 2003.

She entered Mumsnet’s first Bedtime Story competition in 2012 and Michael Rosen picked out as a winner her story about a pig-riding sheriff. Since then she has been writing offbeat and funny stories for 8-12-year-olds. She lives on the edge of south-east London with her family.

SOPHIE ABOUT KATE

Kate is the Christopher Robin to my… well, depending on the day, Pooh, Eeyore, or Piglet (Owl when I’m proofreading). She’s enthusiastic, determined, wise, firm, kind and responsive, and I wouldn’t want to publish anything without her.

KATE ABOUT SOPHIE

Sophie’s terrific characters, witty dialogue, intricate, daring plots and slapstick comedy make her books a joy to read.  I have a special soft spot for the odd goat and pig that appear in her stories: they don’t like humans much but they … just… know.
